>> we begin tonight with the developing story of north baltimore. >> city fire officials say several people have been hospitalized after an apparent carbon monoxide leak inside a home. happen shortly before 8:00 tonight. our officials say people inside the home complained of headaches. paramedics began evaluating for adults and four children. we are told they were all taken to shock trauma and their conditions are not life- threatening. they did find elevated levels of carbon monoxide inside the home but there is no word on the source. >> baltimore police are looking for a suspect who took a car with a 7-year-old inside. >> kai reed is live at police headquarters with the very latest. >> the good news in all of this is that the child has been found. he is a good home with his family tonight. investigators are still looking for the person who took off with him.

>> we were just waking up and we heard spinning wheels and thought that was kind of odd. >> stacey lives next door to the child care center in northeast baltimore. she was home around 7:30 in the morning when police say a man left his 7-year-old son in his running car as he walked his other child into the day care. according to police, the man was barely gone a few minutes before a stranger jumped into the car and took off with the 7-year- old still inside. >> the suspect saw the opportunity that the vehicle was left running. >> within less than an hour, the suspect dropped the child of a bus stop on hamilton avenue. investigators are not releasing any details on what happened within the time between the day care and the bus stop, but said the job was not injured. they are looking for a silver ford explorer.

the job care center is located in a house on a narrow, secluded streets. there is no child care center sign posted outside. the owner came to the door thursday night and expressed relief that the child had been found. >> i was very happy to know that the child was safe. it's very unnerving to know that someone was just walking down the street. very upsetting. >> i just hope that they kept the person. >> please do not have a description of the suspect, but they are looking for a silver ford explorer with the license plate 828m506. kai reed, wbal-tv 11 news. >> tonight, police have arrested two men and a series of least 11 violent crimes. 25-year-old william hamels -- william campbell and 21-roby kenyon waller. police say day targeted mostly

young females at bus stops, they kidnapped, broad, and in some cases assaulted them. >> you have young women on their way to school, on the right to a public place, who were assaulted. the way they treated these young ladies is an outrage. >> baltimore's 37 police commissioner was sworn in. mayor stephanie rawlings-blake administered the oath of office at city hall. he previously served as chief of police in oakland and long beach, california. >> the reverend jesse jackson, the famous civil rights leader was called up in the battle against building a new jail in baltimore. kate amara was there.

actually cannot. the kids were charged with violent crimes like murder and rape, and maryland law dictates that they must be housed within the adult system as their cases go to report. >> 35,000 statewide in 2011, right now the average daily population of the youth detention center is 45. in annapolis this summer, maryland public safety secretary testified that the current setup is too old, too small, and too dangerous to meet their needs. the debate will continue into the new year. the general assembly has the final say. kate amara, wbal-tv 11 news. >> investigators said had apprehended the man responsible for stabbing a woman to death in southwest baltimore. detectives arrested and charged 52-year-old antonio johnson

with the murder. >> president obama will make his first post-election comments tomorrow afternoon about what he thinks needs to be done to avoid the so-called fiscal clef that could plunge the economy back into recession. he is expected to urge congress to pass a bill preventing bush era tax cuts from expiring for all but the wealthiest americans. the newly reelected president and congress face the january 1 deadline to avoid a combination of tax increases and spending cuts that all sides agree would undermine the military and other basic government functions. here's a closer look at how dire that nightmare scenario could be of nothing is done. a report from the congressional budget office says the jobless rate would jump to 9.1% if no deal is reached. analysts say it would cut the federal deficit by more than $500 billion by next september. the adjustments would also cause the economy to shrink by 0.5%

next year. but now that the election is over, washington's power players are figuring out what the future holds. secretary of state hillary clinton and treasury secretary timothy geithner have expressed the desire to step down. today, u.s. attorney general eric holder spoke with students at the university of baltimore. he said he will have to speak with his family and president obama before deciding to stay on as attorney general. before the election, he indicated he did not know how long he would continue to serve. he told students today he had to ask himself, do i have enough gas in the tank? seven members of seal team 6 have been punished for supporting the development of a video game released last month. u.s. military officials say they paid consultant for electronic arts. nbc news reports they received letters of reprimand and for the

half their pay for two months. u.s. army private bradley manning may plead guilty to some offenses. he is offering to take responsibility for some of his less serious charges. that does not include government charges, which are aiding the enemy, which is punishable by life in prison. he opted to be tried by military judge instead of a jury when his call begins in february. jared loughner was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole today in an arizona court room, nearly two years after committing one of the worst mass shooting in u.s. history. he had agreed to a plea deal that spares him from the federal death penalty. the shooting rampage left six people dead and 15 others wounded, including former congresswoman gabrielle giffords. >> this week's nor'easter was

not close to being as damaging as superstorm sandy, but it did not help matters. gas rationing will begin tomorrow. motorists can fill up only every other day. police officers will be in force in that system. many residents in that area are just tired. >> it is not a big deal, usually, but it makes things really hard. >> governor chris christie says he expects power to be fully restored from most forms by saturday. but the american red cross is one agency that sent members to help out in the wake of hurricane sandy. >> some remaining staff members could soon be going on strike. >> they are working to negotiate a new contract, but a red cross spokesman said if the staff does decide to strike, it would be terrible timing. he said the red cross has

already lost 370 blood drives because of hurricane sandy, and the need for blood is even higher because of the storm. new york and new jersey continued to deal with the aftermath of hurricane sandy, and the red cross is one of many organizations that has stepped in to help. >> a lot of staff members have volunteered their time. >> now 50 staff members in the baltimore area are prepared to go on strike if a deal for a new contract is not reached. a red cross spokesman said on tuesday his office received a letter from the teamsters local 311 saying the union could strike in 10 days. a notice is required by law when dealing with health care providers. >> it comes at a really unfortunate time. we are trying to work together with the community and put our arms around the community members and help them come back. >> that blood donation centers,

the second year in a row, but two hours earlier this year. sears and kmart are also opening on the thursday before black friday and more retailers could follow suit. 80% of consumers will start their holiday shopping before december and 12% actually started before september, according to the national retail service. postal officials predict that will handle 365 million packages, a 20% increase over last year. they also expect to deliver nearly 18 billion cards and letters between thanksgiving and new year's eve. the jump in business comes at a good time for the postal service, as they face serious financial problems. rival shippers that ex and ups or expecting smaller increases in shipments. the credit the shift to on-line shopping for the big surge in shipping. >> a dream lasted ship is

through. sunday will arrive in the middle of that warm air mass, sunshine and the southwest wind. we will go for 70 on sunday. sunny skies, milder tomorrow, 55-60 and the wins will diminish a bit on the bay with waves only about 1 foot. in the mountains it has been like december and january of the past couple of weeks. the eastern shore, maybe a little better breeze tomorrow. other than that, a lot of sunshine. it should get to around 70 degrees for most of the eastern shore on sunday. sunny skies and a warming trend. as we head for the veterans day weekend, look for sunny skies friday, partly cloudy saturday. partly cloudy skies on monday with a high steel of around 67.
